No. 4 Sooners place third at The Goodwin
The No. 4 Oklahoma men’s golf team carded a 286 (+6) during Saturday’s final round at The Goodwin to bring its three-day total to 854 (+14). The Sooners tied for third place at the event, giving OU its sixth top-three finish out of eight stroke play tournaments this season.
The three-day, 54-hole event was held at the par-70, 6,758-yard Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif. Sixteen of the 27 teams at the event were ranked in the top-50 of the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
Host Stanford won the team title with a three-round 832 (-18) as the Cardinal fired a 274 (-6) during Saturday’s final round to win by 18 strokes. No. 5 USC took second place at 850 (+10), while No. 9 California recorded a 54-hole total of 855 (+15) to place fourth. Washington earned sole possession of fifth place at 857 (+17).
Redshirt junior Quade Cummins made the biggest jump up the individual leaderboard for OU, posting a 3-under 67 during the final round. Cummins secured his fifth straight top-10 finish at the event, recording a three-day 210 to tie for seventh place. The Weatherford, Okla., native logged five birdies on Saturday to pick up his sixth round in the 60s of the season.
“I was excited to see Quade continue to become elite in college golf and seeing Brad (Dalke) back in our lineup was great,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “Brad didn’t play perfect this week for sure, but I saw some very positive signs from him. Overall, we need to clean up our execution before we head up to Purdue’s event.”
Junior Garett Reband recorded his fifth top-20 finish of the year, tying for 19th place with a 54-hole 214 (+4). Reband recorded a 76 during Saturday’s final round.
Senior Brad Dalke turned in his best round of the event during the final round, recording a 68. Dalke jumped up 31 spots on the individual leaderboard during Saturday’s action and claimed a share of 29th place at 215 (+5). The senior recorded three birdies on his scorecard to pick up his eighth round in the 60s this season.
Freshman Patrick Welch tied for 46th place at 218. Welch concluded the event with a 75 during the final round.
Rounding out OU’s lineup, redshirt junior Thomas Johnson carded a 76 on Saturday. Johnson took 85th place with a 54-hole total of 224.
OU will travel to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Boilermaker Invitational to wrap up the regular season. The two-day event runs April 13-14.
