NSU moves up to second, UCO drops to fifth in Central Regional

AXTELL, Neb. – The No. 10-ranked Northeastern State women’s golf team moved up into second place following Tuesday’s second round of the 2016 NCAA Central Super Regional, which is being held at the par-72, 6,248-yard Awarii Dunes Golf Club.

The top three teams and low three individuals not on those teams after the final round of competition will advance to the 2016 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships, which is scheduled for May 18-21 at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Colorado. NSU is attempting to qualify for the national finals for the first time since 2013.

The RiverHawks fired the second-best round of the day Tuesday to land at 16-over-par 592 (298-294). No. 19 Augustana leads the field at 8-over 584 (301-283), and NSU is tied for second with Missouri Western State (297-295).

Concordia-St. Paul sits fourth at 25-over 601 (300-301), and overnight leader Central Oklahoma dipped to fifth at 27-over 603 (297-306).

Senior Kayla Schroeder shot the lowest round of her career by six strokes to skyrocket into a four-way tie for second place at 1-over 145. After opening with a solid 76 in the first round, she became the only player in the field so far to break 70 as she used birdies on her final two holes to fire a 3-under 69.

Junior Baylee Price is tied for ninth at 3-over 147 (72-75), while true freshman Kelsey Lumpkin is tied for 14th at 6-over 150 (73-77). Fellow true freshman Ebba Moberg sits in solo 23rd at 8-over 152 (77-75), and senior Charter Lawson landed in T-32 at 11-over 155 (80-75).

Northeastern State will be in the final groups and will begin teeing off at 10 a.m. May 4.
