DENVER – The Northeastern State women’s golf team was bestowed the 2016 Highest Team GPA Award by the NCAA Monday night.
The team with the highest grade-point average in each sport among those at the Division II National Championships Spring Sports Festival was publically honored at the Opening Ceremonies by NCAA President Mark Emmert. The ceremonies were held at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, which is home to the NFL’s Denver Broncos, and included a banquet and a fireworks display inside the stadium.
The RiverHawks led all qualifying teams with a 3.698 cumulative GPA. The figure takes into account all members of the team, including non-traveling members and redshirts. The number is cumulative reflecting Fall 2015 and does not include the GPA’s of current true freshmen.
This was the first time in school history a team from Northeastern State was honored with the prestigious award.
