OC’s Lynn named South Central Region Coach of the Year

NORMAN, Okla. (May 31, 2019) – For the second time in four seasons, the Golf Coaches Association of America named Oklahoma Christian’s David Lynn on Friday as its Golf Pride Grips South Central Region men’s coach of the year for the 2018-19 season.

Lynn, named last month as the Heartland Conference’s coach of the year for the third time, also received the South Central Region honor in 2016. The South Central Region of NCAA Division II consists of the Heartland, Lone Star and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conferences.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized by my peers for the season we had this year,” Lynn said. “Our players had a tremendous year on the course and my graduate assistant, Casey Rebmann, did an exceptional job helping with every aspect of on- and off-the-course details. It’s very satisfying to see our team have its hard work pay off.

“I’m also appreciative of OC President John deSteiguer for all of his support and for allowing me the opportunity to be both athletic director and men’s golf coach.”

This season, the Eagles have won five tournaments, the program’s highest total since winning five during the 2011-12 season. The last win came in dramatic fashion, as OC didn’t take the lead in the Heartland Conference Championship until Trevor Norby buried a 15-foot birdie putt of the tournament’s final hole to give his team a one-shot victory at Slick Rock Golf Course in Horseshoe Bay, Texas.

Under Lynn, the Eagles soared to No. 9 in the Division II coaches’ poll – the program’s highest ranking since moving into the NCAA – and reached No. 1 in the NCAA’s South Central Region ranking, the first OC athletic program ever to accomplish that feat.

The Eagles reached the NCAA postseason for the third time in four years of eligibility and placed eighth in the South Central-West Super Regional at The Ledges Golf Club in St. George, Utah.
