DENTON, Texas (Sept. 21, 2020) – A sizzling second round propelled Oklahoma Christian’s Abigail Rigsby into second place on the leaderboard on Monday in the Dallas Baptist Classic at Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch.
Rigsby, a senior from Courtenay, British Columbia, playing in her first collegiate tournament since May 2019, followed an even-par 72 with a 3-under 69 on the 6,183-yard course and was tied for second with DBU’s Julia Garcia at 141, seven shots behind the leader, Olivia Mitchell of DBU.
Rigsby had six birdies in the second round, including a run of three in a row at the par-5 No. 6, the par-3 No. 7 and the par-4 No. 8, and had closed within three shots of Mitchell at one point, but the DBU golfer birdied her final three holes to stretch her lead.
The second round was played in cloudy conditions, with temperatures dropping from the 70s into the 60s and a steady wind of about 10 to 12 mph.
OC’s four players in the season-opening tournament are playing as individuals. Junior Shaley Goad of Wheeler, Texas, was tied for 22nd at 153 (9-over) in the 58-woman field, posting rounds of 81 and 72 – the latter including four birdies.
Sophomore Alexandria Bennett of Plano, Texas, shot rounds of 77 and 82 and was tied for 35th at 159, while freshman Alyssa Wilson of Yukon, Okla., was tied for 48th at 165, improving to 78 in the second round after a first-round 87.
