OCU wins Sydney Cox Invitational by 44 shots, Kamas shoots 10-under
OKLAHOMA CITY – Playing in windy conditions, top-ranked Oklahoma City University closed out the Sydney Cox Invitational with a final round of even par 288 on Tuesday at Lincoln Park Golf Course.
The Stars finished the 54-hole tournament at 16-under-par (848 strokes) on the par-72 course. OCU finished 44 strokes ahead of Texas Wesleyan (892), the third-ranked team in NAIA women’s golf.
OCU’s Blue Team finished third in the six-team tournament with a final tally of 910 strokes.
OCU finished with the top-four individual finishes in the tournament with freshman Maddi Kamas taking top honors with a 10-under-par performance (66-70-70–206). She recorded 14 birdies, one eagle and 33 pars.
Freshman Reagan Chaney placed second at 3 under par (68-71-74–213), senior Natalie Gough in third at 1 under (75-70-70–215) and senior Lauren Behnken fourth at even par (72-70-74–216).
Freshman Paige Wood tied for 13th place with a 228 card (73-72-83).
Senior Rachel Eckert (75-72-77–224) led the Blue Team, tying for seventh place. Freshmen Jamie Welsh (76-69-82) and Morgan Palermo (74-77-76) tied for 11th place at 227 strokes and freshman Meghan Charles tied for 16th place (74-78-80–232) for the Blue Team.
OCU will return to action on Nov. 1-2 at the Coqui Classic, which will be hosted by Texas Wesleyan and played at the Rio Mar Golf Course in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
