OCU women, men ahead at Claude Jacobs Intercollegiate
VICTORIA, Texas – Oklahoma City University women’s golf team carded a round-one 290 and jumped out to a seven stroke lead after the first round of play in the Claude Jacobs Intercollegiate at the Club at Colony Creek.
Freshman Caroline Goodin of Oklahoma City fired 71 and earned a share of the individual lead with Heather Shake of Houston-Victoria. The Stars, ranked No. 3 in NAIA women’s golf, had all five players in the top 10 after the first round and built a seven-shot lead over No. 7 Northwood (Texas) and a 13-stroke advantage over No. 21 Houston-Victoria (Texas).
Senior Elia Folch, of Barcelona, Spain, followed with a first-round 72 and earned a share of third with one round to go. Katie-Lee Wilson, a freshman from Owasso, tied for fifth place after one round of play with a 73.
Freshman Kailey Campbell, of Oktaha, shot 74 and finished the first round in a tie for seventh. Fellow freshman Anna Mikish, of Choctaw, carded 75 and is tied for tenth with one round remaining.
The Stars will return to action in the final round of the Claude Jacobs Intercollegiate at 9 a.m. Monday at the Club at Colony Creek in Victoria, Texas.
OCU take first-round lead in Claude Jacobs Intercollegiate
VICTORIA, Texas – Oklahoma City University men’s golf team captured a three-shot lead after the first two rounds of the Claude Jacobs Intercollegiate Sunday at Victoria Country Club.
Austen Fuller, a sophomore from Edmond, fired 72-70—142 and took the individual lead after two rounds of play, and fellow sophomore Anthony Marchesani, of Rosebud, Victoria, Australia, shot 71-72—143 and sat one stroke back.
The Stars, ranked No. 2 in NAIA men’s golf, finished the first two rounds three shot ahead of eighth-ranked Texas Wesleyan, four strokes ahead of top-ranked Wayland Baptist and 12 shots ahead of sixth-ranked Cal State San Marcos.
Senior James Marchesani, of Rosebud, Victoria, Australia, carded 72-77—149 and tied for 12th after two rounds of play. Garrison Mendoza, a freshman from Clinton, shot 77-79—156 and, sophomore Jett Johnson, of Norman, carded 81-83—164.
OCU will return to action in the third and final round of the Claude Jacobs Intercollegiate at 8 a.m. Monday at Victoria Country Club.
