How about this for a nice gesture. The Golf Course in Okemah, Oklahoma has recently changed it’s operating name to Earnie Fox Municipal Golf Club to honor long-time course manager Earnie Fox, who has been tending the course with love since its opening in 1991.

Fox was born in Okemah in 1934, and received his Bachelor of Science from East Central University. He attended graduate school at the University of Oklahoma.  With the exception of about five years, Fox has been affiliated with Okemah’s golf course in various roles since it’s opening in 1991. Since that time he has served as volunteer, course manager, and board president. He has played an integral role in keeping the course open especially during difficult times.

Fox’ vision for the course is to allow people of all walks of life to play at a affordable price on a family-oriented golf course. He said he loves watching the younger generation test their abilities on the course, and attributes the viability of the course to a strong volunteer base.

“Board members are in agreement that it has been an honor to work with Earnie and that the course would not operate as efficiently without him,” said treasurer Johnna McVeigh.
