Oklahoma golfers vying to reach final stage of Web.Com Qualifying
Former University of Oklahoma golfer Abraham Ancer is tied for fourth while former Oklahoma Christan golfer Rhein Gibson is tied for seventh at the halfway point of the second stage of Web.Com Tour Qualifying in Kingwood, Texas.
Ancer is 1-under after rounds of 70-73 at Deerwood Golf Club while Gibson, who is also a former Oklahoma Open champion, shot 75-69 and is even-par. The top 18 and ties in the 75-player field will advance to the Final Stage Dec. 11-16 at PGA National Resort & Spa (Champion & Fazio courses) in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Other players with Oklahoma ties in position to advance in Houston include Chris Worrell of Jenks, tied for 15th at 2-over (71-75), and Robby Ormand, the 2014 Oklahoma Open champion from Austin, Texas, also tied for 15th at 2-over. Corey Hale of Edmond is tied for 61st at 10 over.
In the McKinney, Texas qualifier at TPC Craig Ranch, Tulsa native Brad Elder is tied for second with Trent Whitekiller of Sallisaw, both at 6-under after identical rounds of 67-71.
Former University of Tulsa golfer Logan McCracken of Oklahoma City is tied for 28th at 1-over (73-72). Talor Gooch of Choctaw and Oklahoma State University is tied for 39th at 3-over (72-75). Ian Davis of Edmond has struggled to a 7-over start (73-78).
In a third qualifier in Brooksville, Fla., former OSU golfer Pablo Martin is tied for 19th at 4-under. Oklahoma City native Blake Trimble, who played collegiate golf at Southern Nazarene University, is tied for 58th at 1-over. Complete results of all the qualifiers can be found here.
