Oklahoma juniors top Texas in Red River Challenge at Dornick Hills

Oklahoma prevailed in 27 matches to 21 for Texas in the Red River Challenge Saturday and Sunday at Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, retaining the title for host state.

Individually, players from the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour boys team took nine of the top 10 spots in a dominant performance.

Collin Bond of Norman led the way with rounds of 69-72 for a 3-under 141. Saturday’s playing conditions were cool, rainly and windy, while Sunday’s were also cool but no rain.

Chase Blaser of Edmond shot 76-68 to finish second by two shots. Logan Mayo of Springdale, Ark. and Ainslie Stanford III of Edmond tied for fourth at 145, followed by Samuel Bonaobra of Broken Arrow, Jace Chaney of Ardmore, Mason Haley of Enid and Preston Albee of Choctaw at 145, with Benton Manly of Tulsa taking ninth at 146.

Texas’ Adrienne Ahn took first place among the girls at 146 with rounds of 72-74. The top finisher from Oklahoma was Natalie Blonien of Altus at 153 (81-72). Juliana Hong of Norman tied for 10th at 155, while Josey Cavitt of Burneyville and Peyton Coburn of Broken Arrow tied for 12th at 156,

Scoring is done by a best ball among two players from each team. Blaser and Stanford combined to shoot 7-under in their match for a 10-shot victory Also shooting a combined 5-under in wins were the teams of Bonaobra and Chaney and the team of Sam Morris and William Hennessey.
