ORU leads, Stars tied for third in Payne Stewart Memorial

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.  – After starting the tournament a day early due to weather forecasts over the next few days, the Oral Roberts University women’s golf team grabbed a five shot lead after the first round of the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial. ORU shot 293 on Sunday and leads UALR (298) by five shots. The hosts from Missouri State are tied with South Dakota State, Wichita State and Oklahoma City for third at 304.
 
Freshman Kennedy Ishee led the way with a season-best 69 in the first round, tying her for first place overall.

Kailey Campbell led Oklahoma City University with a first-round 71. Campbell, a sophomore from Oktaha, Okla., found herself two strokes off the pace. The two-time defending NAIA women’s golf champion Stars tied for third with a 304 to be ahead of nine NCAA Division I teams.

Ishee of Oral Roberts and Maria Alejandra Villalobos of Wichita State shared the individual through 18 holes on the par-71, 6,010-yard course. Tournament host Missouri State rescheduled the first round for 1 p.m. Sunday due to the threat of inclement weather.

Anna Mikish, a sophomore from Choctaw, supplied Oklahoma City with a 76, while Emma Allen, a freshman from Tulsa, carded a 78.
Katie-Lee Wilson, a sophomore from Owasso, contributed a 79, and Caroline Goodin, a sophomore from Edmond, shot an 83 for the Stars.

OCU entered one individual – Abby Thompson, who had an 84.
