OU golfer McGreevy to play in Sun Bowl All-American
University of Oklahoma golfer Max McGreevy has been selected to play in the 2016 Sun Bowl Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic this weekend. The event will take place Nov. 11-13 (Friday-Sunday) at the El Paso Country Club in El Paso, Texas.
McGreevy, a senior at OU, will compete in a field of 21 of the country’s best collegiate golfers. The Edmond, Okla., product earned a place in the tournament after being named a Division I PING All-America Third-Team selection for his junior campaign.
“This tournament is an opportunity to highlight what Max did last year as an All-American,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “It’s an award to go down there and play. He’s facing 21 of the best players in the country, and it’s an honor to be able to do that, and to have a guy like Max who’s had a really nice career here play in it in his last season is awesome.”
The event begins Friday with the Titlest long drive at 9 a.m. CT and the PING putting contest at 10 a.m. CT. The first round of competition will begin Saturday morning at 8 CT, and the second round will follow that afternoon. The final round is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. CT Sunday.
The Sooner will look to carry momentum from a successful fall season into the event. McGreevy finished in the top 20 in four out of five events during the fall, including notching his second career tournament win with co-medalist honors at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in October.
McGreevy is the first OU competitor to enter the prestigious tournament since Will Kropp in 2012.
More information about the event can be found on the All-America Golf Classic website.
