OU women sign four to letters of intent

NORMAN, Okla. — University of Oklahoma women’s golf head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell announced Tuesday the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent. The foursome of Hannah Wood, Rylee Pedigo, Ana Ruiz and Valerie Tanguay will join the OU team in fall 2014. They will fill the roster spots of current seniors Emily Collins, Chirapat Jao-Javanil, Kaitlyn Rohrback and Anne-Catherine Tanguay.

"I’m really excited to have these signees join us next August," Drouin-Luttrell said. "I know they are working hard and all of them are thrilled that they will be wearing Crimson and Cream. They will bring a new dynamic to the team, as we will be young again."
 

 
HANNAH WOOD
Centennial, Colo.
Arapahoe High School

 
No. 20 overall and No. 4 in her class in the AJGA Polo Rankings, Wood won the 2012 and 2013 Colorado Junior Tournament of Champions. She also won the prestigious 2013 Kathy Whitworth Invitational, qualified for the 2013 U.S. Women’s Amateur and advanced to the round of 64 as an alternate at the 2013 Women’s Amateur Public Links (held at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club). Wood was a member of Team Colorado in the 2013 USGA Women’s State Team Championship, placing 11th individually to help her squad finish sixth. The Centennial, Colo., native represented her home state at the 2012 and 2013 Girls Junior America’s Cup in Hawaii. She tied for 20th place individually in 2012 and led the Colorado squad to a third-place finish in 2013. Wood boasted a third-place finish in both the 2012 and 2013 Colorado 5A State Championships and collected four total wins in 2012 and 2013. A three-time all-state selection (2011-13), Wood shot a 67 to set a course record at Indian Tree Golf Course in 2012. Wood’s brother, Emerson, played collegiate golf at UC Riverside, and she has had family members compete professionally tour for the past three generations.

ANA RUIZ
Chihuahua, Mexico

Ruiz has been a member of the Mexican Girls National Golf Team since 2009 and has been a regional, national and international competitive golfer since she was 7 years old. She took fourth in the 2009 Junior All-Star at Spring Creek and was No. 1 in the Mexican Junior National Rankings that season in her age division. Ruiz flourished in 2010, taking the title at the AJGA/Mexican Golf Federation Junior Open and placing in the top 10 at both the AJGA Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic and the Evitt Foundation Junior All-Star. In 2011, she tied for third at the AJGA Northern Virginia Junior, placed 10th at the Montverde Academy Junior All-Star Invitational, and finished 18th out of 98 competitors in the AJGA Rolex Invitational Girls Championship. In 2012, Ruiz tied for eighth at the Sea Pines Junior Heritage. Ruiz is a full-time student at the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy and attends Heritage Academy in Hilton Head, S.C.

RYLEE PEDIGO
Fort Worth, Texas
Paschal High School

 
Pedigo is a member of the 2013 Jim McLean Junior Academy and was invited to the 2013 Kathy Whitworth Invitational Tournament. She won the 2013 TJGT DBU Patriot Championship and finished second in both the 2013 AJGA Brookhaven and the 2013 TJGT Galleria – Dallas Classic at the Tribute. Pedigo was the Club Junior Champion at Mira Vista Country Club in 2012 and 2013 and was the first alternate at the U.S. Girls Junior Qualifier in Norman. She is the varsity golf team captain at Paschal High School where she was named 2013 first-team 5A all-district and finished third at regionals and fourth out of 96 competitors in the state tournament. Pedigo’s low competitive rounds came at AJGA Brookhaven (shot a 2-under 71) and at the 2013 Bob Estes Classic (carded a 2-under 67).

"Rylee comes from a family of golfers. I believe she has a lot of potential, and she will benefit from being part of a team environment. I look forward to having her join the team next fall."

VALERIE TANGUAY
Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada
College Champlain St. Lawrence

 
Tanguay is No. 3 in the Canadian Rankings and won the Quebec Junior Girls Championships in 2012 and 2013. She finished second in the Canada Summer Games in 2013 and third at the 2013 AJGA Killington. She is not related to current OU senior and 2013 All-American Anne-Catherine Tanguay.
 
Coach Drouin-Luttrell on Tanguay:
"Valerie also brings international experience to next year’s freshman class. She’s a member of Team Canada and has played multiple events both in Canada and here in the U.S. She maintains a positive attitude on and off the course, and I expect her to become a strong leader on this team."
