OU women’s team takes seventh at Florida State Match Up

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A trio of Sooners finished in the top 30 and the Oklahoma women’s golf team finished seventh (62-over, 926) at the Florida State Match Up.

The Sooners and host Seminoles (71-73-73-75-86 = 378; three round total: 1108) earned the victory in the match up portion of the event and topped the tandem of Kentucky and Notre Dame (73-74-76-78-84 = 385; three round total: 1133) by 25 strokes. FSU (E, 864) won the team title over Augusta (+25, 889).

“We struggled all week to get something going on this tough course and when adversity strikes, you have to be able to fight back,” said Oklahoma head women’s golf coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “We have a few days at home to regroup and get ready for the Clemson Invitational.”

Savannah Barber led the Oklahoma contingent and finished 4-over 76. Barber tied for 23rd and concluded the three-day tournament 13-over 229. On Sunday, the freshman tallied a pair of birdies on the fifth and seventh holes. After falling back three strokes on the back nine, she responded with a 1-over 37 on her final nine holes.

Mikhaela Fortuna tied for 25th and finished 14-over 230. She tallied a 7-over 79 on Sunday and netted two birdies on the second and fourth holes. Fortuna settled in on the front nine and tallied an even par 36.

Nina Lang rounded out the trio of top-30 finishers, concluding the event tied for 28th. Lang netted a birdie on her second hole and finished 7-over 79. She compiled a 15-over 231.

Kaylee Vesely (22-over 238) tied for 45th and Raychel Nelke (26-over 242) finished 54th. Emily Hun, Oklahoma’s lone individual in the field, finished 53rd (25-over 241).
