Phillips poised to make cut at Senior PGA Championship

With second-round play suspended due to dangerous weather in the area, teaching pro Tracy Phillips of Tulsa has concluded 36 holes at even-par and is tied for 49th and looking solid to make the cut at the Kitchenaid Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Mich.

After shooting 2-over 73 in the first round, Phillips had his second round to 5-under par through 11 holes before a mudball from the middle of the fairway on 12 caused his second shot to go well right into the tall weeds, leading to a double bogey 6. He played 1-over from there to finish at 2-under 69 and back to even for the tournament.

Phillips chipped in twice early in the round, making one from 40 yards from the pin on the fourth hole for birdie then saving par with a chip-in from the fringe on the fifth hole. He birdied three of the next five holes after that and had several other good opportunities until being somewhat derailed by the unfortunate break on 12.

Phillips shot rounds of 75-80 last week to miss the cut in the PGA Championship at Valhalla, a course measuring over 7,600 yards for the championship.

Richard Bland leads the tournament at 12-under par. Live scoring is here.
