Rogers State fourth of 18 after first round at Midwestern State Invite

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Rogers State women’s golf team sits in fourth place out of 18 teams after round one of the Midwestern State Invitational on Monday (March 14) at the Wichita Falls Country Club.
The Hillcats totaled a first round score of 306 on the par-72, 5,843-yard course. Host Midwestern State and Arkansas Tech are tied for first after the first round at 299 with Dallas Baptist in third at 303.
Junior Kina Boone and senior Chelsea Burney are tied for fifth place as the duo shot rounds of 2-over-par 74 in the first round today. The two both shot scores of 38 on the first nine holes, but did it in different ways. Boone started with six-straight pars before two late bogeys for the 38. Burney started with two birdies in the front nine with four bogeys for the 38. In the back nine, Boone and Burney each had a birdie for scores of 36 and the 18-hole total of 74.
Boone finished her round with 14 pars, fourth in the field. She went even par on both the par threes and par fives.
Burney went 1-under-par on the four par fives, and 1-over-par on the par fours. She totaled three birdies in her round.
Junior Mica Easton carded a first round score of 6-over-par 78. She started hot with two birdies in her first three holes, but those were her only birdies in the round. After the front nine, she had a score of 1-over-par 37, but shot a 41 on the back for the score of 78.
Freshman Elizabeth McCloskey put together a round of 8-over-par 80. In her round, she tallied two birdies and was even in her final eight holes.
Senior Raquel Trevino finished her first round with a score of 12-over-par 84. Trevino registered two birdies in her round. She was one of the best on the day on par fives with a score of 1-under-par on the four holes.
Anna Frandsen of Arkansas Tech leads the field after a 3-under-par 69 in the first round. MSU’s Sierra Campbell is second at 1-under-par 71.
The shotgun start final round starts tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. at the Wichita Falls Country Club. The Hillcats start at holes four through six and are paired with St. Mary’s and Metro State.
