Rommann, Wendling qualify for PGA Assistant Championship

BROKEN ARROW – Trent Rommann, an assistant at Crestview Country Club in Wichita, won the National Car Rental South Central Section PGA Assistant Championship presented by Cobra Puma Golf Monday at Forest Ridge Golf Club in Broken Arrow.

Rommann shot rounds of 69-74 to finish 1-over 143, three strokes ahead of Mike Wendling, an assistant at Fairfax Golf Course in Edmond. The pros played Forest Ridge as a par 71.

"The golf course played extremely tough today,"  Rommann said. "My opening round of 69 was one of the best competition rounds I have ever played. It feels great to have won this event and I am looking forward to the National Championship. Special thanks to Forest Ridge GC and Cobra/Puma Golf for their support."

By winning, Rommann qualified for the 37th National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship Oct. 31 – Nov. 3, at PGA Golf Club (Wanamaker Course) in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The facility will be hosting its 18th consecutive PGA Assistant Championship.

"The course was in great shape, but I didn’t putt well enough the second round to get it done," Wendling said. "Congratulations to Trent on his win…we are both excited about moving on to the National Championship and representing the SCSPGA."

The winner of the national event earns $9,000 out of a total purse of $100,000. The top-70 finishers and ties after the second round, will make the cut.
