Sands puts on first-round show in Talor Gooch Foundation Junior Championship
Parker Sands of Edmond rolled in seven birdies and an eagle against two bogeys to shoot 7-under 65 and take the first-round lead in the Talor Gooch Foundation Junior Championship, an American Junior Golf Association event at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City.
Despite that amazing round, Sands is just two shots clear of Grant Gudgel of Stillwater and Emerson Majma of Edmond. The Oklahoma State commit Gudgel had seven birdies of his own against two bogeys while Majma rolled up six birdies and just one bogey.

In a fourth place tie is 13-year-old Chase Hughes of Oklahoma City, who shot 3-under as did Abhay Duggal of The Woodlands, Texas.
Oklahomans dominated the top-10 as Christian Johnson of Oklahoma City and Preston Albee of Choctaw are tied for sixth at 70, Collin Bond of Norman and Colt Farrow of Andover, Kan., are tied for eighth at 72 and Benton Manley of Tulsa, Ty Hyatt of Stillwater and Cameron Cheek of Owasso are tied for 10th at 1-over 73 with Cameron Summerhays of Scottsdale, Ariz.
In the girls division, Evyn Cannon of Edmond shot 2-under 70 and is two shots behind first-round leader Rylee Salome of Las Lunas, N.M, who shot 4-under 68. Lisa Herman of Jenks and Lucy Darr of Stillwater each shot 1-under 71 to sit in a tie for third with Yu-Chu Chen of Allen, Texas, Emily Luo of Danville, Calif. and Kara Lee of Frisco, Texas.
The 54-hole event continues Wednesday and the final round is Thursday.
