Son moves into third round of U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship
AUGUSTA, Mo. (July 26, 2017) – Yujeong Son of Norman stormed into the third round of the 2017 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship with a 5 and 4 victory over Chia-Yen Wu of Chinese Taipei in a second-round match Thursday morning.
Son, who reached the semifinals of this event in 2016, was facing Erica Shepard of Greenwood, Ind., in the third round beginning at 1:45 p.m.
Medalist Lucy Li, of Redwood Shores, Calif., was upset 2 and 1 in the second round by Yu-Sang Hou of Chinese Taipei. The championship is being held on Boone Valley Golf Club’s par-71, 6,311-yard course.
Son won her first-round match Wednesday, defeating Ximena Gonzalez Garcia of Mexico 3 and 1. Son jumped out to an early 3 up lead through the first five holes and held on from there.
Following third-round matches today, the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will be played Friday. The championship concludes with a 36-hole final on Saturday, starting at 7 a.m. CDT. Fox Sports 1 (FS1) will provide coverage all three days.
