The women’s golf teams at Tulsa, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma will all be continuing their seasons after regional assignments were announced Wednesday by the NCAA.

Oklahoma will be staying home as the sixth seed at the Norman Regional at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course. There they will be joined by the ninth-seeded Tulsa Hurricane, fresh off a rousing victory in the American Athletic Conference Championship.

Oklahoma State, which last week lost in a playoff for the Big 12 Championship title, drew the fifth seed at the Gold Canyon Regional. The Gold Canyon Regional will be played at the Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club in Gold Canyon, Arizona and will be hosted by Arizona State.

Regional play will take place May 5-7 at six regional sites, with 396 participants and each site featuring 12 teams and six individuals. The top five teams (30 teams total) and the low individual not on an advancing team (six individuals total) from each regional site will advance to compete in the national championships to be played May 16-21 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. Championship play will be hosted by Texas, with the final three days of the championships televised live by the GOLF Channel.

OU girls react to the NCAA news!

Tulsa, which felt like it needed to win the AAC Championship to make it to regional play, celebrated with a watch party at Cedar Ridge Country Club. Junior Jenni Roller, who tied for first in the Veritex Bank Collegiate in Dallas two weeks ago and placed sixth in the conference tournament won by teammate Romaine Massery, said the Hurricane is peaking at the right time and very pleased to draw the Norman regional.

“We are very happy,” she said. “We know that course well. We played the OU Match Play out there and got second. I’ve played a few junior tournaments out there. I think it suits our team well, especially if it gets windy. We like playing in the tougher conditions.

“We have the common goal of we want to make it to nationals and do well at nationals. That’s what we’re focusing on and staying in the process.”

TU coach Mike Roters agreed that playing at Jimmie Austin should benefit his team.

“It will be nice to be close to home. Four of the girls have played the course, obviously Romaine (a mid-season transfer addition) has not. I have not been out there but I’ll be picking the brains of some folks who have a lot of knowledge.”

Tulsa womens golf team celebrate its regional assignment in Norman.

The Sooners advanced to regional play for the 12th time under head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell,  This marks the seventh time Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club has hosted a men’s or women’s regional and the third time in the last four years.

“We can’t wait to take the course in front of our friends, family, and fans, it’s huge for us,” said Drouin-Luttrell. “The postseason feels like an entirely new chapter, and we’re determined to step up and perform at the level we know we’re capable of.”

Once regional play begins, Oklahoma will look to secure its 10th all-time NCAA Championship appearance and first since 2018.

The Sooners are enjoying their strongest spring season in over a decade, posting five straight top-five finishes for the first time since 2014. The stretch was highlighted by Oklahoma’s first tournament win since 2018 at the Paradise Invitational, where junior Gracie Mayo claimed medalist honors. Freshman Audrey Rischer added a victory at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic and earned two SEC Golfer of the Week awards, while senior Reagan Chaney picked up conference recognition after finishing runner-up at the Jim West Invitational in the fall.

The Sooners last advanced to the NCAA Championship in 2018, placing 20th. Their best national finish came in 2014 with a fourth-place showing.

OU’s home course, Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club, was originally designed by Perry Maxwell in the 1950s on land that once served as an annex to the Norman Naval Air Station. A redesign by Bob Cupp in 1996, supported by Jimmie Austin and other donors, modernized the course. In 2017, former OU golfer Tripp Davis led additional renovations to the layout and facilities. The course has hosted several high-level events, including NCAA Women’s Regionals in 2013 and 2019.

At La Costa, the NCAA Championships open with three rounds of stroke play. The top 15 teams and the lowest nine individuals on non-advancing teams will then play a fourth round to determine the individual champion. After 72 holes, the top eight teams advance to match play to decide the national champion.
