Edmond, Okla. (July 4, 2014) – Championship organizers for the 2014 U.S. Senior Open, conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA), have released the schedule of events for the week of July 7-13 at Oak Tree National.

Championship week begins with practice rounds on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, which offer spectators the opportunity to watch the world’s best senior golfers practice their skills on the course or on the range. Upon entering the main gate, spectators are encouraged to review the practice board to find the players’ tee times (schedule is subject to change). This is also the best opportunity to obtain autographs and photographs, as personal cameras are not permitted when championship play begins on Thursday, July 10.

Several special events will occur during the practice rounds, including exhibitions on the practice range.

All military personnel and their families, both active and retired, with proper identification will receive complimentary admission for Tuesday’s practice round on July 8. Military personnel will be able to secure their tickets at the admissions gate. Red, white and blue ribbons will be distributed at the Main Admission gate to distinguish military who are spectators.

Military Appreciation Day at the 2014 U.S. Senior Open will begin at 7 a.m. on the first tee, with the presentation of colors by the Governor’s Honor Guard and Oklahoma National Guard. Immediately following, Ashten Vincent, the daughter of Lieutenant Colonel Barry and Stacie Vincent, will perform the national anthem. Throughout the day, members of various military branches will announce the players teeing off on the first and 10th tees, as well as tending the flagsticks, with the American flag, on the 9th and 18th greens.

An exhibition will be held at 2 p.m. on the practice range, including Major Dan Rooney, the founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation, decorated veteran Major Ed Pulido and 1995 U.S. Open champion, Corey Pavin. The program incorporates great golf, fun and an inspiring message.

Junior Day, in partnership with Chevron, will be held on Wednesday, July 9. Oklahoma native and PGA Tour professional Scott Verplank will challenge former Oklahoma City Thunder player Desmond Mason to various golf skills on the practice range at 2 p.m. NBC golf announcer Steve Sands will act as the emcee. Juniors can register for the exhibition at the Chevron STEM ZONE, located near the championship’s main entrance, where they will receive a giveaway and lunch voucher. STEM, an abbreviation for science, technology, engineering and math, works to develop interest and understanding of science among youth through sports.

The first two rounds of the Senior Open are scheduled for Thursday and Friday and the gates open at 7 a.m. The championship will use a two-tee start for the opening two rounds, with players starting from both the first and 10th tees at 7:15 a.m. Spectators can pick up a pairings

guide at many locations on the course. The guide lists groupings and starting times and includes a course map.

Saturday and Sunday offers an increased level of excitement when the 156-player field is reduced to the low 60 scorers and ties. Players begin their rounds from the first tee, starting at approximately 8 a.m. A trophy presentation to crown the 2014 U.S. Senior Open champion will be held on the 18th green late Sunday afternoon. Championship officials recommend that spectators arrive early for the best view and best grandstand seats.
