Star-studded semifinal matches in store at OGA Junior Boys & Girls Championship

The matches many were expecting and hoping to see will become reality Thursday as most of the top seeds survived and advanced in the Oklahoma Golf Association Junior Boys and Girls Championship hosted by Taylor Moore at Kickingbird Golf Course in Edmond.

How about this for Thursday’s semifinal pairings in the boys 16-18 division. Top seed and stroke play champion Andrew Goodman of Norman against defending match play champion Jaxon Dowell of Edmond. Or current Class 6A champion and OGA Amateur champion Jordan Wilson of Edmond against Texas Tech signee James Roller of Jenks.

The girls matches are just as enticing. Maddi Kamas of Kingfisher, who won the stroke play title Tuesday, takes on the talented Raychel Nelke of Pocolo at 8 a.m. to kick off the day’s matches, while Emily Miller of Edmond and Jenni Roller of Jenks tee of at 8:07. The Rollers have a chance to be the first brother-sister duo to win in the same year since girls were added to the event.

Goodman cruised into the semifinals with a 7 and 6 victory over Brett Wilcoxen of Tulsa and a 6 and 5 win over Matthew Smith of Oklahoma City. Dowell had a tough road, edging Bo Robbins of Guthrie 3 and 2 and Tres Hill of Elk City 2 and 1. The two golfers are both heading to the University of Oklahoma, Dowell in the fall and Goodman after his senior year.

Roller defeated Shane Herlihy of Edmond 3 and 2 and then registered a 4 and 3 win over Ben Stoller of Owasso. Wilson, who is committed to Oklahoma State, edged Ryan Bell of Norman 1 up in the first round and then put away Jake Hopper of Norman 4 and 2.

Kamas, who has won all three events she has played in 2020, rolled past Jenna Triplett of Edmond 7 and 6 and then downed Meghan Charles of Sand Springs 3 and 2 to set up the match with Nelke, who downed 12-year-old Beans Factor of Ada 6 and 4 and then survived a tough quarterfinal with Reagan Chaney of Ardmore 2 and 1.

Jenni Roller defeated Lindyn Ross of Ardmore 4 and 2 and then knocked off defending champion Brooklyn Benn of Edmond 2 and 1 in the quarterfinals. Miller, who was hoping to help lead Edmond North to its third consecutive Class 6A state championship before the high school season was cancelled, rolled past Aiden Coffelt of Edmond 7 and 6 and then nipped Gracie Doke of Tulsa 2 and 1 to set up the other semifinal match.
