Talented field ready for AJGA’s Gateway First Bank Tulsa Junior

Mesa Falluer of Muskogee and Josh Stuart of Blanchard were the low qualifiers Sunday with 1-under rounds of 70 at Meadowbrook Country Club to secure spots in this week’s Gateway First Bank Tulsa Junior Presented by Bo Van Pelt, a 54-hole American Junior Golf Association event slated for Cedar Ridge Country Club Tuesday through Thursday.

The tournament is organized Maggie Roller, director of instruction at Cedar Ridge. Her daughter Jenni Roller, a University of Tulsa commit, is one of the contestants in the girls division. Other top Oklahoma junior girls participating are Raychel Nelke of Pocolo, Olivia Coit of Edmond and Mimi Hoang of Yukon.

The boys field includes University of Oklahoma commits Ryder Cowan of Edmond and Jake Hopper of Norman, Kansas State commit Ben Stoller of Owasso and a host of other talented players from across the state, including Preston Albee, Will Hennessee, Drew Mabrey, Benton Manly, Carson Blaser, Sam Morris, Bryant Polhill, Parker Sands, Matthew Smith, Cody Fifer, Grant Gudgel, David Bryan III, Sutton McMillian, Buddy Wherli and brother Jesse and Jeremy Tandoy.

The top-ranked player in the field is Matthew Comegys of Van Alstyne, Texas, who is No. 30 in the Rolex AJGA rankings. He is verbally committed to Texas Tech.

Roller has put lined up a coaches question and answer session for the participants on Tuesday that includes former University of Tulsa coaches Dale McNamara, daughter and current Auburn coach Melissa Luellen, OU men’s coach Ryan Hybl, Tulsa women’s coach Annie Young and Baylor coach Mike McGraw.
