Tulsa faces must-win AAC Championship to extend season
BROOKSVILLE, Fla. –– Tulsa begins play in the American Athletic Conference Championship today with a clear mission, win or go home.
Although it has shown clear signs of being able to compete at an elite level, TU’s season-long inconsistency has likely left it on the outside looking in when selections are announced for the six NCAA regionals that will be held May 5-7, including one at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course in Norman. Tulsa is currently ranked 66th in the Scoreboard rankings.
“We probably need to win to be safe,” Tulsa coach Mike Roters said.
The 54-hole AAC Championship is being held at Southern Hills Plantation Golf Club and will consist of 18 holes Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Tulsa last won the conference championship in 2021 and North Texas and East Carolina are considered the favorites. Those are the two teams Tulsa will be paired with in the first round.
The Golden Hurricane enter the AAC Championship coming off its best finish of the season. TU finished fourth at the Veritex Bank Collegiate. At the event, Jenni Roller was co-champion. This was her first tournament crown of her career.
Southern Hills Plantation Golf Club will play as a par-72, 6,289 yards for the three-day event. Fans can follow the live scoring of the American Athletic Conference Championship by clicking HERE.
