Tulsa, McCracken maintain leads in C-USA Championship

Edmond, Okla. – The University of Tulsa maintained its’ 3-stroke lead in the 2014 Conference USA Men’s Golf Championship following the second round of play on the East Course at Oak Tree Country Club on Monday. Golden Hurricane Logan McCracken remains atop the individual leaderboard at 3-under 137 after 36 holes on the par-70, 6,861-yard course. McCracken followed up his first-round 67 with an even-par 70 on Monday.

The senior notched an eagle and a birdie, along with three bogies, to hold his spot atop the leaderboard. As a team, TU fired a 1-over 280, bettering Sunday’s round by seven strokes and moving to nine-over par 569 for the tournament. Tulsa’s Matt Mabrey moved into a tie for second-place with a one-under 69 round to sit at 139 (-1) for the championship. Mabrey leads the field with 10 birdies through 36 holes.

In addition, to McCracken and Mabrey, the Hurricane also counted two scores of 1-over par 71 today, coming from Mark Mumford and Matthew Marquez, while having to discard Colton Staggs’ round of 73.

Staggs sits in 22nd place with a score of 6-over par 146, while Mumford and Marquez are tied for 36th place with 149 totals.

Charlotte tallied a second-round 281 to leapfrog No. 16 UAB and move into second place (572, +12). A trio of even-pars from Raoul Menard, Riley Davenport and Seth Gandy as well as a 1-over 71 by Franco Castro elevated the 49ers on day two.

The Blazers are one stroke behind Charlotte (572). No. 74 Paul Dunne once again led UAB, carding a second-round one-under 69 to move into a tie for second on the individual leaderboard.

Middle Tennessee and Rice are tied for fourth place at 15-over par 575.

With more favorable weather conditions, nearly every squad saw improved team totals with the average individual score dropping from 76.12 to 73.06 on day two.
 
Final round action on Tuesday begins at 8:00 a.m. with Tulsa’s first tee time scheduled for 8:45 a.m. The team champion will receive Conference USA’s automatic bid to the NCAA Regional competition.
