UCO adds to lead in NAIA Championship
SALEM, Ore. – Oklahoma City University turned in a round-three 289 and stretched its lead to 16-stokes Thursday in the NAIA Championships at Creekside Golf Club.
The Stars, ranked No. 2 in NAIA men’s golf, moved to 280-288-289–857 on the par-72, 6,887-yard course and held a 16-shot advantage over top-ranked Texas Wesleyan after three rounds of action. Third-ranked Cal State San Marcos finished the third round 22 shots off the lead in third place.
Sondre Ronold carded 74 to tie for the individual lead after 54 holes. Ronold, a senior from Stavanger, Norway, added a pair of birdies to move to 69-69-74–212 on the tournament and earn a share of the lead with Aaron Flores of Our Lady of the Lake (Texas).
Anthony Marchesani, Michael Palmer and James Marchesani finished the third round in third place, sixth place and 11th place respectively.
The Stars will look to secure their ninth NAIA title in the fourth and final round of the NAIA Championships at 11:20 a.m. CDT Friday at Creekside Golf Club.
