GLEN ROSE, Texas (Sept. 10) – Central Oklahoma knocked 11 shots off its first-round score, but wasn’t able to move up the leaderboard on the final day of the Tarleton State Invitational Tuesday.
The Bronchos closed with a 293 to finish two trips around the 6,068-yard, par-72 Apache Links Course at Squaw Valley Golf Club with a 597 total in their first tournament of the fall season. That left UCO eighth in the 13-team tourney, which Dallas Baptist won with at 571.
Freshman Megan Brown of Cordell, Okla., shot back-to-back even par rounds of 72 in her first collegiate event to tie for sixth and help Midwestern State to a second place behind Dallas Baptist.
For UCO, freshman Susana Oliveras fired a 2-under-par 70 to lead the Bronchos. Fellow rookie Emma Shelley shot 73, while Madison O’Dell had a 74, Faith Stewart a 76 and Sydney Roberts a 77.
“We hit the ball pretty well both days, but our putting really hurt us,” head coach Michael Bond said. “It was a good learning experience for us and we’ll use it to get better moving forward.”
Oliveras was sensational in her collegiate debut, following an opening-round 72 with the closing 70 that enabled her to finish fourth in the individual standings at 142. She made six birdies in the final round and was three-under on the back nine to overcome a one-over front nine.
Shelley played her final nine holes one-under in rallying for a 73, while O’Dell was one-over on both nines.
Central continues its five-tournament five schedule Sept. 24-25 at the UNK Invitational in Kearney, Neb.
