ST. ELMO, Minn. (Sept. 16) – Bethany Darrough led a 1-2-3 finish that powered Central Oklahoma to a runway win in the season-opening Holiday Inn & Suites Lake Elmo Invitational here Tuesday.
The Bronchos shot a final-round 307 at the par-72 Tarton Park Golf Club to finish the two-day, 36-hole event with a 608 total, 23 shots clear of runner-up Augustana. Host Concordia-St. Paul was third in the 15-team tourney at 640, followed by Minnesota State-Mankato (655) and Delaware State (660).
Darrough had a second straight one-over-par 73 to finish with a 146 total to claim medalist honors in her first tournament with the Bronchos as the junior finished five shots ahead of teammate Taylor Neidy, who closed with a 76.
Aly Seng tied for third at 155 after a final-round 78, while June Tigert and Lindsey Bensch both shot 80s in tying for ninth at 158. Katie Bensch had an 82 and tied for seventh at 157 while competing as an individual.
“It was a great way to open the season, especially coming on a course where the regional tournament will be played next spring,” head coach Michael Bond said. “We didn’t play as well as the first day, but it was a little tougher out there today and we stayed pretty consistent.”
The Bronchos don’t play again until hosting the UCO Classic Oct. 7-8 at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City.
