Vitali, Crouse to battle for OGA Senior Amateur crown

The championship match is set in the Oklahoma Golf Association Senior Amateur at Twin Hills Country Club and we will know Thursday who has best handled four days of playing one or two rounds per day in 100 plus degree heat.

Peter Vitali of Oklahoma City, a former club professional who won the OGA Senior Stroke Play title in 2023 and 2024, dispatched Ron Roden of Oklahoma City 3 and 2 Wednesday afternoon,. He will face Charlie Crouse of Oklahoma City, who edged 2021 champion Eric Gudgel 1 up in a match that featured wild momentum swings.

Crouse won five of the first six holes to take a four up lead. Starting on the eighth hole, Gudgel won five of the next seven to shoot in front by a hole. Crouse won 15 to tie it. Gudgel won 16 to go back in front. Then Crouse won 17 with a birdie and 18 with a par to eke it out. The last hole to be halved was the 11th.

In the Super Senior Division for those 65 and older, Terry Hughes of Bartlesville and Kirk Wright of Oklahoma City, both past OGA champions, went to 19 holes before Hughes prevailed. Wright is a three-time champion of the regular division of this event.

He will face Jerry Nick of Okmulgee in the championship match, Nick rolled past Bruce Maddux of Ponca City 5 and 4 in the other semifinal. Nick has not won the match play but won the Super Senior Division of the Senior Stroke Play in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Hughes won it in 2024 and 2025.
