Wolff, Eckroat have Cowboys second in Querencia Cabo Collegiate
San Jose del Cabo, Mexico — Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team opened play on Sunday at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate with a 277 to stand alone in second place at Querencia Golf Club.
The top-ranked Cowboys’ 7-under total was eight shots off the pace of tournament leader Arizona State at the par-71, 6,924-yard layout. Baylor finished the day a shot behind OSU and alone in third place.
A pair of Sun Devils, Blake Wagoner and Chun An Yu, posted matching 66s to share the individual lead.
OSU’s Matthew Wolff came in tied for third place after carding an opening 67. The sophomore began his round at the 10th hole, opening with a birdie. He added another at the 15th to turn in 2-under 33. Wolff moved to 4-under for the day with birdies at Nos. 3 and 4 before carding his lone bogey of the day at the sixth. He closed with a birdie at the ninth to get to his 4-under tally.
Sophomore Austin Eckroat finished among the group tied for eighth place with a 2-under 69 that included five birdies. He was joined at 2-under by senior Hayden Wood who posted four birdies and a hole-in-one at the par-3 second hole.
Senior Zach Bauchou posted an opening 72 to stand in a tie for 27th place, while freshman Aman Gupta opened with a 77 and finished tied for 57th place.
Competing individually, freshman Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen posted an opening 73 to stand in a tie for 33rd place.
The Cowboys will begin their second round tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. and will be grouped with Arizona State, Baylor and Ole Miss.
