Former Southeastern Conference and Big 10 Conference Coach of the Year Lynn Blevins was hired as the third coach in Regis University men’s golf history.  Regis Director of Athletics Ann Martin announced the hiring of Blevins who will take over following the retirement of Mike Kramer earlier this spring.

"I am excited to have Coach Blevins join our university and guide our men’s golf program," Martin said.  "With his success at the collegiate ranks and his diverse golf background, he will fit right in and be able to take our program to the next level."

Blevins spent the last five seasons at the helm of both the men’s and women’s golf programs at Rogers State University in Claremore.  Blevins was hired as the program’s first coach in 2009 and by the time Rogers State left NAIA he had both his men’s and women’s teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25 poll. Rogers State is transitioning to Division II but is currently ineligible to compete in postseason championships.

Blevins’ wife is the assistant dean for student development at Anschutz Medical Campus, a University of Colorado facility based in Aurora on the east side of Denver. The two have been long-distance commuting, maintaining a home in Stapleton, Colo., and near Grand Lake in Oklahoma.

Blevins said it’s going to be bittersweet to leave Rogers State, noting that building a program from scratch was one of the most difficult endeavors he’s undertaken, but that the programs are now at the point with talented players on campus and strong recruiting classes coming in that they can compete on a national level.

"I’m going to miss seeing that through," Blevins said. "They’ve got a chance to be really good."

Prior to his time at Rogers State, Blevins was President and CEO of the Buffalo Golf Group, Inc. where he oversaw the construction, start up and managament of eight golf courses from 1994-2009.

Blevins spent six seasons as the head coach at the University of Florida (1981-87) where he led the Gators to the 1984-85 SEC title and a third place finish at the NCAA Championship.  The very next season he led them to a runner-up finish in the SEC and left Florida taking the Gators to five consecutive NCAA Tournaments.

Blevins took the reigns at the University of Iowa men’s golf program in 1990 and led the Hawkeyes to the 1992 Big 10 Championship while earning the Big 10 Coach of the Year honor.  The title is still the only Big 10 Championship in Iowa men’s golf history.

Blevins graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1977 and played four seasons on the Sooner golf team.  He was co-captian his final two seasons as a Sooner before taking over head coaching duties in 1980.  He spent two seasons at his alma mater where he recruited and coached three time All-American Andrew Magee.
