Cowboys finish 13th at rain-shortened Fighting Illini Invitational
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team carded a 5-over 285 during its second round at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational on Saturday to move into a tie for 13th place at Olympia Fields Country Club. Sunday’s final round was canceled due to rain and unplayable course conditions.
Through 36 holes at the par-70, 7,353-yard layout, the Cowboys finished at 15-over 575 and tied with Stanford. North Carolina won the event at 10-under 550.
Fifth year Rayhan Thomas continued to lead the way for OSU’s starting five, posting his second consecutive 70 to stand at even-par 140 and tied for 18th place. Thomas posted a pair of birdies on his opening nine before making the turn at 1-under 34. He tallied eight pars and a bogey on his closing side to finish at even for the day.
Senior Jonas Baumgartner also carded a 70 during his second round to climb 22 spots into a tie for 44th place at 145.
Freshman Preston Stout followed an opening 73 with a 72 to stand at 145 as well, while classmate Gaven Lanesigned for a 73 after opening with a 72 to get in at 145.
Freshman Johnnie Clark carded a 74 to stand in a tie for 74th place at 151.
Competing individually, fifth year Hazen Newman fired a 69 on Saturday to move into a tie for 26th place at 142.
