HOCKLEY, Texas – Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team wrapped up play on Sunday at the Big 12 Match Play tournament at Houston Oaks, finishing fourth at the inaugural event.
During the final match of pool play on Sunday morning, the Cowboys halved their match with Kansas, but did not advance to the championship match due to the hole differential tiebreaker. In the third-place match, OSU fell to Texas, 3.5-2.5, at the par-71, 7,007-yard layout.
Against KU, OSU got a 4-and-3 victory from senior Zach Bauchou over Jake Scarrow, a 1-up win from sophomore Austin Eckroat over Ben Sigel and a 1-up win from junior Viktor Hovland against Harry Hillier.
Freshman Aman Gupta fell to Charlie Hillier, 2 and 1, sophomore Matthew Wolff fell to Andy Spencer, 5 and 4, while Drew Shepherd defeated senior Hayden Wood, 1-up.
In the match against the Longhorns, the Cowboys got a 1-up win from Wood over Parker Coody and a 2-and-1 win from Hovland over Pierceson Coody. Eckroat halved his match with Drew Jones.
Bauchou fell to Spencer Soosman, 3 and 2, while Gupta came up short against Steven Chervony, 2 and 1. Matt Wolff suffered a 2-up defeat at the hands of Cole Hammer.
The Cowboys will be back in action on Oct. 22 when they travel to Dallas for the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate.
Oklahoma wrapped up the inaugural Big 12 Match Play Tournamet on Sunday, finishing the event with a 3.5-2.5 win over Texas Tech.
OU finished in a tie for seventh place at the event, halving its final match with Texas Tech. Four individual matches between the Sooners and Red Raiders were halved.
OU’s Quade Cummins earned a 2 and 1 victory over Texas Tech’s Adam Bloome. Riley Casey, Brad Dalke, Blaine Hale and Patrick Welch all halved their respective matches. Garett Reband dropped his final match of the weekend to Texas Tech’s Thomas Allkins, 2 and 1.
The Sooners dropped a tight match during the final session of pool play on Sunday morning, falling to Texas, 3.5-2.5. OU picked up wins from Cummins and Reband in the morning session, while freshman Welch halved his match.
Cummins topped Texas’ Spencer Soosman, 3 and 2, while Reband took down the Longhorns’ Stephen Chervony with a 3 and 1 win.
OU wraps up its fall slate at the Ka’anapoli Classic in Ka’anapoli, Hawaii, which runs Nov. 2-4.
