JUNO BEACH, Fla. – Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team posted a 4-under 284 on Tuesday at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup to finish seventh at Seminole Golf Club.
The Cowboys finished the event with a 3-under tally of 861 at the par-72, 7,280-yard layout. Arkansas and Notre Dame shared fifth place and were three shots clear of OSU. North Carolina finished at 43-under 821 to best the field by 20 shots.
Junior Jonas Baumgartner made a run at the individual title before ultimately coming up four shots shy of UNC’s David Ford.
Baumgartner fired his second consecutive 66 to finish in sole possession of second place at 12-under 200. Over his final 36 holes, the Cowboy standout played bogey-free golf while recording 10 birdies and an eagle.
On Tuesday, Baumgartner started on the back nine and birdied two of his first three holes. He moved to 4-under for the day with birdies at the 15th and 16th, turning in 4-under 32. Baumgartner birdied the third and added his final birdie of the day at the par-3 eighth for his 6-under total.
The runner-up finish matched the best of his career after finishing second at the Paintbrush Invitational last fall.
Senior Hazen Newman carded a 74 to finish tied for 20th place at 216.
Junior Bo Jin’s 73 tied him for 221, tying him for 29th place, while fifth year Leo Oyo was a shot back at 222 after carding a 73 as well to grab sole possession of 32nd place.
Senior Dillon Stewart signed for a closing 72 to finish at 226 and tied for 34th place.
Senior Rayhan Thomas and freshman John Wild competed this week at the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational in Wichita. Thomas closed with a 74 on Tuesday to finish at 221 and tied for 29th place, while Wild tied for 25th place at 220 after carding his second consecutive 73.
