Cowboys in sixth after 36 at Seminole, Baumgartner tied for fourth
JUNO BEACH, Fla. – Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team finished the first day of action at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup in sixth place at Seminole Golf Club.
The Cowboys opened with a 286 during the morning round at the par-72, 7,280-yard layout before carding a 3-over 291 during the afternoon’s second round. North Carolina pulled away from the field, finishing with a 32-under total of 544 to stand 17 shots clear of Florida State. Play was suspended for the day with three teams unable to complete their second rounds.
Tar Heel David Ford’s 68 and 62 gave him a six-shot cushion in the individual race.
OSU’s Jonas Baumgartner finished the day tied for fourth place at 6-under 138. After opening with a 72, the junior shot up the leaderboard with a bogey-free 66.
During his second round, Baumgartner tallied his first birdie at the third before tacking on two more at the sixth and seventh. He closed his outward nine with an eagle at the par-5 ninth to turn in 5-under 31. After opening his back nine with four pars in a row, he carded a birdie at the 14th before finishing his day with four consecutive pars.
Senior Hazen Newman followed an opening 70 with a 72 to stand at 142 and tied for 17th place.
Junior Bo Jin also opened with a 70 before signing for a 78 to dip into a tie for 28th place, while fifth year Leo Oyo posted rounds of 74 and 75 to finish at 149 and tied for 30th place.
Senior Dillon Stewart finished the day tied for 39th place with rounds of 75 and 79 giving him a 154 total.

Additionally, a pair of Cowboys are in action at the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational in Wichita. Senior Rayhan Thomas carded rounds of 72 and 75 to finish the day tied for 29th place, while freshman John Wild posted rounds of 74 and 73 to also finish in the group tied at 147.
