Cowboys lead at Royal Oaks after day one
DALLAS, Texas — Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team grabbed the lead after the first day of action at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate on Monday at Royal Oaks Country Club.
The Cowboys posted a 36-hole total of 724 with rounds of 356 and 368 at the 6-count-5 event. OSU’s 14-over total was good for a two-shot cushion over Baylor at the par-71, 7,068-yard layout.
The Bears produced the event’s individual leader in Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen, who carded rounds of 66 and 70 for a 136 total.
Leading the way for the Cowboy starting lineup was Kristoffer Ventura. The freshman posted a pair of 72s for a 144 tally, tying him for eighth place.
Junior Jordan Niebrugge followed an opening 68 with a 77 to come in one stroke behind Ventura at 145 and tied for 11th place.
A pair of freshmen, Sam Stevens and Brendon Jelley, also finished at 145. Stevens opened with a 74 and followed with a 71, while Jelley carded scores of 72 and 73.
Sophomore Wyndham Clark posted a 70 during the morning round before signing for a 79 during his second round to finish at 149 and tied for 27th place.
Sophomore Zachary Olsen wrapped up the day tied for 50th with a 153 total after posting scores of 78 and 75.
The Cowboys will begin tomorrow’s final round at 9:30 a.m. and will be grouped with Baylor and Oklahoma.
