PHOENIX — Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team returns to action this weekend when it begins play at the 47th annual ASU Thunderbird Collegiate at Papago Golf Course.
Hosted by Arizona State, the 13 participating schools will play 36 holes on Friday and 18 on Saturday at the par-71, 7,333-yard layout.
The top-ranked Cowboys will be without the services of head coach Alan Bratton and Viktor Hovland this weekend. The junior is in the field at The Masters with Bratton serving as his caddy. Hovland shot even-par 72 in the first round.
Assistant coach Donnie Darr will compete with a lineup consisting of seniors Zach Bauchou and Hayden Wood, sophomores Austin Eckroat and Matthew Wolff as well as freshman Aman Gupta.
OSU will be in action for the first time since the Valspar Collegiate in mid-March after seeing its last event, last weekend’s Aggie Invitational, canceled due to inclement weather.
The Cowboys have won the event on four occasions, earning titles in 1974, 1977, 1983, 1988. Lindy Miller (1977), Willie Wood (1983), Michael Bradley (1988) and Anders Hultman (2001) have all come away with medalist honors at the event for OSU.
OSU will begin its first round tomorrow at 7:00 a.m. and will be grouped with Arizona State.
