Cowboys roll to fourth straight victory
PONTE VEDRABEACH, Fla. –Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team posted a closing 282 during its third round at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday at Sawgrass Country Club to secure its fourth consecutive victory.
The streak marks the fifth time the Cowboys have won four in a row in program history and istied for sixth on the school’s all-time list. It is also OSU’s longest winning streak since reeling off five victories in a row during the 1994-95 season.
OSU finished with a 19-under total of 845 at the par-72, 6,966-yard layout. The Cowboys’ total put them 10 shots clear of UCF and 14 ahead of Alabama-Birmingham.
UCF’s Greg Eason claimed medalist honors after finishing with a 69 and a 205 total.
In just his fourth career start, freshman Zachary Olsen led the way for OSU, tying for third place at 211 after closing with a 69 of his own.
Senior Talor Gooch tallied the second top-five finish in his last three starts after closing with a 70 to finish at 212.
Redshirt freshman Wyndham Clark closed with a 70 to tie for sixth place at 213 and earn his fifth consecutive top 10.
Sophomore Jordan Niebrugge also earned a top 10, tying for eighth place at 214 after signing for a 73 following his final round.
Senior Ian Davis rounded out the Cowboy lineup with a 74 to get in with a 219 score and tied for 27th place.
OSU will be back in action on March 7 when it travels to Las Vegas for the Southern Highlands Collegiate.
Tulsa finished in ninth place with an 885 total. The Hurricane was led by a pair of golfers finishing among the top-15 in the field of 84 participants. Senior Logan McCracken turned in a final round 75 for a an even-par 216 total for 13th place, while junior Matt Mabrey finished one stroke behind McCracken with a score of 217 after carding a third round score of one-over par 73 today.
Tulsa junior Colton Staggs finished in 58th place with a score of 228, followed by senior Mark Mumford in 73rd place at 232 for the tournament. Junior Cody Kent finished in 75th place with a 233 score.
Tulsa will be back in action at the Louisiana Classics, March 10-11, at the Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, La.
