Cowboys, Sooners, Golden Eagles receive regional assignments, seeds

Oklahoma State is the No. 1 seed in the Urbana Regional and Oklahoma the No. 2 seed in the Amherst Regional as seeding was announced Wednesday for the six regionals that determine the 2025 NCAA Championship field.

Oral Roberts, which Tuesday won the Summit League Championship, was named the No. 13 seed in the Bremerton Regional.

Oklahoma State surges into the postseason having won three consecutive tournaments, including an 11-shot victory last week in the Big 12 Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa. OSU was the only one of 16 teams to shoot under par in the tournament.

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 12-14. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.

Team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

OSU leads the nation with 16 regional titles, six more than the second-best total. The Cowboys have won seven regional titles in 10 tries under the direction of head coach Alan Bratton, including a run of six consecutive from 2016-22.

Three years ago, Eugenio Chacarra wrapped up medalist honors at the NCAA Columbus Regional to become the 12th Cowboy to do so.

Overall, the Cowboys have qualified for the NCAA Championship in 75 of a possible 77 seasons.

Oklahoma will make its 14th consecutive NCAA postseason appearance under head coach Ryan Hybl, as the Sooners were named the No. 2 seed at the Amherst Regional on Wednesday. The event is set for May 12-14 at Poplar Grove Golf Club in Amherst, Va.

This marks the seventh straight year that Oklahoma, currently ranked No. 7 nationally, has earned a top-three regional seed — the longest streak in program history. At the regional, the top five teams and the low individual on a non-advancing team will qualify for the NCAA Championships, set for May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

Top-seeded and sixth-ranked LSU headlines the Amherst field, followed by No. 7 Oklahoma. In total, eight of the nation’s top 50 teams will compete at the site: No. 6 LSU, No. 7 Oklahoma, No. 18 Vanderbilt, No. 19 Pepperdine, No. 30 Tennessee, No. 31 Arizona, No. 42 Stanford and No. 43 Wake Forest. Arkansas, Florida Gulf Coast, Kent State, Princeton and Howard round out the 13-team field.

Oklahoma has won four tournaments in 2024-25, tied for the third-most in the country. The Sooners own a 132-17-3 record and have defeated every team ranked ahead of them at least once, including Amherst’s top seed, LSU. Led by Palmer Cup selection Jase Summy and two other top-50 golfers in Drew Goodman and Ryder Cowan, OU brings one of the nation’s most experienced lineups into the postseason, with its roster combining for over 600 career rounds.

The Sooners have won seven NCAA Regionals in program history, including four under Hybl (2015, 2018, 2022, 2024). They are also the only program to appear in six of the last eight NCAA Match Play quarterfinals.

Poplar Grove Golf Club, set in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, was the final course designed by golf legend Sam Snead. Since opening in 2001, it has paired natural elevation changes with a classic layout true to Snead’s vision. A recent renovation refined the course while preserving its original character, solidifying Poplar Grove as one of the premier venues in the region.

Tee times will be announced closer to the competition. Live scoring will be available via Clippd.

The ORU Golden Eagles punched their ticket after winning their eighth Summit League title in program history at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona, finishing four strokes ahead of North Dakota State. The victory marked ORU’s first league crown since 2010.

Leading the charge was junior Kevin An, who clinched the individual title in a three-man playoff after carding rounds of 70-67-69 (-7). His poise on the first playoff hole secured ORU’s first individual Summit League champion since 2021. Christian Johnson and Philip Voetmann also delivered clutch final rounds in the 60s, finishing T6 and T11, respectively.
