Stars roll to SAC Championship, gear up for NAIA nationals
OKLAHOMA CITY – Maddi Kamas and Logan Allen tied for medalist as the Oklahoma City women’s golf team secured its fourth straight Sooner Athletic Conference tournament championship Tuesday at the Twin Hills Golf and Country Club. OCU entered the conference tournament as the sixth-ranked team in the country.
The Stars won the tournament by 11 strokes and finished +40 for the event. Multiple OCU golfers finished inside the Top-10 for the individual leaderboard including Bethany Norton, Jamie Welsh and Paige Wood.
OCU led by nine strokes after the first round and never looked back. In the second round, the Stars posted an 87 (+15) as a team, adding more cushion to their already sizable lead. Second-place Texas Wesleyan tallied a +13 team in round three, which matched OCU’s round score, but the lead amassed by OCU in the first two rounds proved to be too large a gap to overcome for the Rams.
Norton completed the tournament in fourth place while Welsh and Wood tied for ninth place. Klaudie Karnikova finished 12th place, securing a Top-15 finish for each OCU golfer.
With their first-place finish Tuesday, OCU has earned five Top-3 finishes during their spring season.
