Cowgirls open in fourth at Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

NEW ORLEANS —Led by sophomore Chih-Min Chen, the Oklahoma State women’s golf team started strong in the first round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship, and ended the day tied for fourth place at 4-over 292.

Chen posted birdies on holes one and three, as well as 11 and 12 to finish the day at 2-under 70, which is her best outing of the season. The reigning Big 12 Freshman of the Year is tied for 4th place heading into Tuesday’s second round.

Miami carded 12 birdies as a team, which has them atop the leaderboard. The Hurricanes went 1-under 287 for the first round of the tournament. Denver’s Mariell Bruun and Miami’s Dewi Weber are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 4-under 68.

Kenzie Neisen had an even-par 72 for the first round. Her consistency landed her tied for 14th place. Emma Broze carded six birdies and a 1-over 73. She is tied for 20th after the first day.

Maddie McCrary went 5-over 77 to put her in a tie for 59th. Linnea Johansson carded 8-over 80, and is tied for 76th.
