Oklahoma amateurs Austin Eckroat of Edmond and Quade Cummins of Weatherford got off to solid starts Thursday in the PGA Tour’s Mayakoba Golf Classic in Mexico.
Eckroat, an All-American senior at Oklahoma State, and Cummins, an All-American senior at the University of Oklahoma, were both invited to play in the event by the tournament hosts due to their sterling amateur and collegiate records. Eckroat shot a 2-under 69 in the first round and was tied for 22nd. Cummins shot even-par 71 and was tied for 57th. The cut will likely be around even par after today’s second round. Live scoring is available here.
With the additions of Eckroat and Cummins to the field, there are 12 players with state ties competing, led in the first round by former OSU star Viktor Hovland with a 4-under 67.
