Three University of Oklahoma golfers and one from Oklahoma State University won matches Thursday and moved into the round of 32 in the match play portion of the Maridoe Amateur Championship in Carrollton, Texas.T

Leo Oyo of Oklahoma State, who finished second in the 54-hole stroke play portion which concluded Wednesday, won his first-round match 4 and 2 over Devondeep Bling. He faces Jackson Suber in the second round Friday.

Moving on for the Sooners were senior transfer Jonathan Brightwell, junior Logan McAllister and junior Patrick Welch.

McAllister picked up the most lopsided win on the day with a 7 and 6 win over Maxwell Ford. McAllister picked apart the Georgia signee, not allowing Ford to win a single hole on the day. The Sooner junior will face Iowa’s Alex Schaake in the Round of 32.

As their teammate cruised, Patrick Welch and Jonathan Brightwell also won their matches. Welch, who won the individual championship at the East Lake Cup earlier this fall, won his Bedlam match over Oklahoma State sophomore Brian Stark 4 and 3. Brightwell, the Sooner graduate transfer, also nabbed a 4 and 3 victory, over Stanford freshman Karl Vilips. Oklahoma’s lone loss of the day came from Garett Reband by way of NC State’s Benjamin Shipp who took a 1up win after 19 holes.

Mason Overstreet of Kingfisher and the University of Arkansas lost 1 up to Matthew McCarty.

A pair of U.S. Junior champions won their opening-round matches. Arizona State commit Preston Summerhays took out Shane Ffrench 4 and 3 while Stanford’s Michael Thorbjornsen beat George Duangmanee 2 up.

Thorbjornsen will next face McClure Meissner (SMU), who had the longest match of the day, a 23-hole win over Alex Goff (Kentucky).

The Round of 32 will begin at 8:00 a.m. central time on Friday with the Round of 16 played in the afternoon.
