Eckroat rips off 63 to lead as Cowboys surge to front in Querencia Cabo Collegiate
San Jose del Cabo, Mexico – Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team blistered Querencia Golf Club during its second round at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate to vault into the lead on Monday in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico.
The top-ranked Cowboys entered the day eight shots out of first before using their 15-under score of 269 to build a nine-shot cushion at 22-under 546. Baylor finished the day alone in second place at 555, while Arizona State finished the day at 556 and in third place at the par-71, 6,898-yard layout.
Sophomore Austin Eckroat climbed seven spots into the top spot in the individual race after firing a bogey-free 63 to stand at 10-under 132 and five shots clear of the field. Eckroat began his day with three consecutive pars before carding birdies at Nos. 4, 7 and 9 to turn in 3-under 33. After posting a birdie at the 10th, Eckroat added birdies at the 12th, 14th and 15th before closing with a birdie at the 18th to seal his low round as a Cowboy.
Classmate Matthew Wolff followed an opening 67 with a 70 to finish the day in a five-way tie for second place at 5-under 137.
Also among the group at 137 was senior Hayden Wood, who posted a 68 on Monday after opening with a 69.
Senior Zach Bauchou climbed 13 spots into a tie for 14th place after posting a 68 to stand at 2-under 140.
Freshman Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, who is competing individually, posted his second consecutive 73 to finish at 146 and tied for 35th place.
Freshman Aman Gupta signed for a 74, giving him a 151 total and tying him for 52nd place.
