Sooners remain third heading into final round of Southern Highlands Collegiate

The No. 6 Oklahoma men’s golf team remains in third place after 36 holes at the Southern Highlands Collegiate. The three-day, 54-hole event is taking place at the par-72, 7,374-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas.

OU carded a 281 (-7) during Monday’s second round, bringing its team total to 568 (-8). The elite 15-team field features eight teams in the top 25 of the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, including five in the top 10.

No. 4 Georgia Tech holds the lead after two rounds at 566 (-11) after posting a 282 (-6) during the second round. Stanford is one shot back of the lead at 567 (-1). No. 8 Texas and No. 22 Texas Tech share fourth place going into Tuesday’s final 18 holes with team totals of 572 (-4).

Redshirt junior Quade Cummins led the Sooners for the second consecutive round, holding a share of sixth place out of 80 individual competitors. Cummins recorded a 69 (-3), carding one eagle and five birdies during his round.

Redshirt junior Thomas Johnson fired a team-best 68 (-4) during Monday’s round and moved up to 10th place with a two-day total of 141 (-3). Johnson birdied three of his first four holes and picked up two more birdies to close his round on the final two holes.

Junior Garett Reband and freshman Patrick Welch share 24th place after 36 holes at 145 (+1). Welch posted a 73 (+1) during Monday’s action. Reband picked up an eagle on hole No. 3 during the round and finished the day with a 74 (+2).

Junior Riley Casey carded a 71 (-1) to move up the individual leaderboard in the second round. Casey sits in a tie for 40th place at 149 (+5) through two rounds.

The final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate is scheduled for Tuesday. The Sooners will tee off from hole No. 1 at 11:50 a.m. CT. OU will be paired with Georgia Tech and Stanford during Tuesday’s third round.
