Edmond North, Grady Thompson are kings of Class 6A for 2026

Edmond North concluded a dominant spring season in which it won eight of 11 events with the school’s 19th state championship in boys golf. And it wasn’t close.
With three players among the top 10 individuals, the Huskies widened the comfortable lead they built through 36 holes Monday with a 5-over 293 in the final round Tuesday at Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville to sail to a 27-shot victory over defending champion Broken Arrow.
It was another Edmond school, however, that produced the individual champion. Junior Grady Thompson of Edmond Santa Fe shot rounds of 67-69-71 to finish at 9-under 207. Thompson made a steely 10-foot downhill par putt on the 17th hole which turned out to be huge as Bartlesville junior Jay Wasemiller used a hole-in-one on the fourth hole and three late birdies in his stellar round of 64 to move to 8-under, just one shot back.
Thompson, who won the 2025 Oklahoma Junior, said it was hard to compare the two, but this one felt extra special as he could share it with his teammates. He also was congratulated by Iowa State coach Andrew Tank who was on hand watching and has secured a verbal commitment from Thompson to become a Cyclone following his senior year in 2027.
The Huskies were led by junior Chase Blaser, who closed with a 68 to finish fourth individually at 5-under. Teammate Reed Higgins placed fifth at 2-under after a final-round 74. Junior Owen Mitchell was eighth at 2-over 218 after closing with a 74.
“We’ve been playing well all spring but really took off with an excellent second round yesterday,” said Edmond North coach Todd Kimrey. “Our goal today was to widen the lead and we were able to do that by seven shots.”
Kimrey said all of his players are products of the junior golf programs at Oak Tree Country Club or Oak Tree National and he marvels at the depths of talent in that city, which also produced the individual champion as well as many top competitors at other classes outside of Class 6A and others that are home schooled.
Broken Arrow sophomore Porter Hart finished third individually at 6-under, shooting 70-68-72. Hart was at 8-under and one shot back after birdies on the par-4 13th and 14th holes and was still breathing down Thompson’s neck when he reached the short par-4 17th. However he had to hit his second shot there over a tree, came up short, pitched up on to the elevated green and three-putted for double bogey to drop back.
Hart, who recently attended a golf camp at the University of Oklahoma that showed him the level he wants to achieve, led the Tigers while defending champion junior Jacob Newsom finished eighth. Newsom has committed to Mississippi State.
Wasemiller used a 7-wood from 211 yards on No .4 for his second career ace. He reeled off four consecutive birdies on holes 7-10 and birdied holes 14, 16 and 18 coming in. Though Hillcrest is his home course, the 8-under 64 is one of the best competitive rounds ever played on the Perry Maxwell-designed gem whose firm, undulating greens yield birdies reluctantly.
“It’s a tough course and knowing where to hit it helps a lot,” Wasemiller said. “The greens can be really tough, especially if you’re above the hole.
Wasemiller’s heroics lifted Bartlesville into third place in the team race, eight shots behind Broken Arrow. Norman placed fourth and Edmond Sana Fe was fifth.
