Edmond North used a balanced team effort in tough, soggy conditions to win its 11th Class 6A girls high school golf championship at rainy Meadowbrook Country Club Tuesday, upending defending champion Stillwater by two shots.

Freshman Harlow Gregory of Norman North shot even-par 144 (70-74) and succeeded teammate Juliana Hong for the individual title. Hong finished third at 4-over (74-74), one shot behind Amy Reavis of Stillwater (72-75 – 147).  Maggie Ruby of Stillwater was fourth at 7-over 151 and Cara Cummins led the champion Edmond North team at 8-over 152.

Gregory or Hong has won every event in which Norman North has participated in the 2024-25 season. The two will team up beginning Saturday in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball at Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club.

Gregory drilled a 48-foot birdie putt in the rain on the tough par-4 16th to get back to 2-under-par for the event where she started the second round, but then bogeyed holes 17 and 18. She said her driving was off in the second round and she reverted to using a 3-wood off the tee for much of the back nine, but still was thrilled to be the state champion and have a shot at being the first girl to win four consecutive crowns at the 6A level.

Edmond North first-year coach Kate Kettner had been an assistant on seven previous championship teams but this was her first time at the helm. She said the Huskies, who have won all but three tournaments (two seconds and a third) in 2024-25, were a competitive lot that pushed each other to excel especially when conditions were terrible.

In addition to Cummins, Edmond North junior Kate Koehn finished eighth at 11-over. Erika Bryton-Burkhalter placed 12th at 14-over, while Abbie Justiz was 16th at 21-over, one shot ahead of teammate Natalie Purvis was another shot back at 22 over .

Edmond North won the girls Class 6A state championship for the 11th time.

“I always feel like our greatest strength is our team,” Kettner said. “It may seem crazy, but the times we have played in the rain have been some our best events. We don’t seem to be bothered by the rain.”

Cummins’ round was highlighted by a blind pitch in birdie on the par-4 15th from below the elevated green after her second shot stopped short of a large bunker.

Stillwater was led by Reavis and Ruby but also an 11th place finish by Nikki Pitts. Third place was taken by Jenks, which shaved 21 shots off its first-round score (330-309). Junior Tori Kirberger shot the day’s best round with a 2-under 70 after opening with an 84 to place sixth while teammate Sophia Lefler added a 75 after opening with an 80 to finish eighth.
