Five early favorites for the Masters 2025

The PGA early season is almost underway, even as winter hits across the Northern Hemisphere. Golf fans are beginning to get excited for another great slate of action-packed tournaments, and bettors are already looking ahead to the biggest events of the season.

One such big event is only a few months away, but odds have been released on betting sites around the world. The Masters, golf’s most prestigious tournament, is set to tee off again in April, and the favourites on sportsbooks appear to be set. Let’s look at the five golfers picked by operators as the likeliest favourites for the event.

Scottie Scheffler (+400)

It is no surprise to see Scottie Scheffler holding it down at the top spot. The list of UK betting sites where he is not the presumptive favourite would be small, as all sportsbooks seem to have him pegged at number one. Scheffler has won two of the last three Masters tournaments and is playing on a different level from everyone else at this point. Scheffler lacks defined weaknesses in his game and is coming off what is likely the best season in recent memory. He has shown his ability to dominate Augusta in the past.

Xander Schaufelle (+900)

Listed at number two on most UK betting sites is Xander Schauffele. While Scheffler put together a season of unparalleled dominance, Schauffele emerged from 2024 with two new major championships. Previously, Schauffele was looked at as someone who can’t break through at the highest level, but he has put that narrative to bed. He showed incredible composure in his major victories and is likely one of the more confident golfers on the planet right now. He will look to improve upon his second-place finish in the 2019 Masters.

Rory McIlroy (+1000)

We all know the story with Rory McIlroy right now; he’s battling through a brutal major drought but continues to put up strong performances. There are not many people who would argue that Rory is not a top-five golfer on the planet and that he can win any tournament he plays in. Rory is a great ambassador for the sport, and fans are strongly in his corner. Many hope he can cement his legacy with a Masters victory. Rory has four majors but no victory in the Masters, coming in second in 2022. If he can win at Augusta, he’ll have won all the big ones.

Jon Rahm (+1100)

While Jon Rahm may have lost some fans when he made the move to LIV, there is no doubt that he remains one of the most gifted golfers in the world. The Spanish superstar is unquestionably still capable of putting together a run in a tournament, and he has claimed victory at Augusta before, in 2023. Rahm is in his prime, and there aren’t many bettors or sportsbooks on the planet who would wager against him. His +1100 odds offer incredible value, considering his ability to perform under pressure.

Ludvig Aberg (+1400)

Ludvig Aberg is widely considered to be one of the future superstars of the sport. He has never won a major before and has only ever played in four. However, the 25-year-old Swede has one of the purest games on the tour and has performed well under the spotlight. In 2024, he finished second in the Masters, a surprising result that showed that he is ready for the spotlight right now. While he is still a long shot, Aberg is set for a massive year. 2025 could be a coronation for the up-and-comer, and he could show why many are pegging him to be the future of the game.
