Looking ahead to the 2025 golfing calendar

Every year produces its share of top golf tournaments and 2025 will be no exception. Along with the four majors for men and five for women, there will be a welcome focus on team golf with the biggest event in that category scheduled to take place.
The battle to be the leading golfer on the two main tours, the PGA and DP World Tour circuits, adds even more entertainment to the mix. It’s going to be a memorable year but what, exactly, is in store?
Team Golf Highlight
Golf fans will be acutely aware that 2025 is a Ryder Cup year. This is the biggest team event in the sport and Europe and America will do battle for the trophy once again. The best performing players across the season make it to each squad, and there is always a tense and close rivalry between the two sides.
The Ryder Cup is a curious event: America generally go into the tournament with the strongest team, and the golf betting markets regularly show them as clear favourites. In recent years, however, Europe has been the dominant side in this event.
Of the last 14 Ryder Cups, Europe has won ten and America four. In 2025, the Americans will enjoy home advantage as the competition heads to the Bethpage Black Course on New York’s Long Island.
The result may also depend on whether defecting LIV Golfers will be able to compete, but no matter who is involved, this is bound to be another stunning tournament.
Majors Get Underway
The men’s Majors are now crammed into a relatively short four-month period. Traditionally, it all gets underway at April with the annual running of the US Masters. This is the only one of the four major events to be held on the same course each year, so in 2025 we will head once again to the scenic surroundings of the Augusta National in Georgia.
The majors are the only time when all of the world’s top golfers will be in contention, barring injury. With such a strong field and so much quality on show, it’s a great time to tune in, and 2025’s Masters promises to be another thriller.
When Scottie Scheffler won the event in 2024, it led to a period of dominance for the American. He maintains his place at the top of the World Rankings and Scheffler will go into next year’s Masters as the clear favourite.
There will be challenges from the likes of Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele who also enjoyed success in 2024. Returning players Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka will lead the LIV Golf Masters challenge.
Completing the Foursome
The remaining three majors follow in May, June and July respectively. The PGA Championship is next up with the iconic Quail Hollow Golf Club in North Carolina taking on hosting duties. June’s US Open follows at Oakmont Country Club before the action switches to Europe.
The Open Championship is the oldest of the four Majors, and in July 2024 it will make a rare trip across the Irish sea to the Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland. This is the third time that this venue has hosted the event, and the location will offer a tough test to all taking part.
Like the US Masters, all of the remaining Majors will attract the world’s best players, and they are among the highlights of a golfing year.
Women’s Golf Enjoys a Surge in Interest
Thanks to extended live coverage of the main tournaments, women’s golf is enjoying a boom period right now. In the women’s game, there are five Majors, and these are the Chevron Championship, the Women’s PGA Championship, the US Women’s Open, the Evian Championship and the Women’s Open.
Each tournament will be broadcast live across each of the four days, and the interest in women’s golf is bound to increase thanks to coverage from the main sports broadcasters.
Unfortunately, there is no major team golf championship for women this year. The Solheim Cup is the women’s equivalent of the Ryder Cup and it’s scheduled to be played again in 2026. In the meantime, there is a host of top international tournaments to complement each of those five major events.
While these are the highlights of the golfing year, 2025 will produce thrilling tournaments almost every week. Aside from its regular break during the festive season, there are professional events right across the calendar including top competitions such as the Players Championship, the Scottish Open, and the Phoenix Open.
On the PGA Tour, the race to become the best golfer of the season finishes with the conclusion of the FedEx series in August. The DP World Tour offers a similar challenge for the top European players.
There is plenty in store in what promises to be another thrilling golfing year.
