Four defending champs pursue titles in three classes

There are four defending individual champions as the Oklahoma Boys High School State Championships play out with 36 holes Monday and 18 Tuesday. Two of them, however, will be in the same class this year.

Will Whorton, who led Community Christian to the Class 3A title in 2025, will attempt to do the same in a stacked Class 4A field at Winter Creek as Community Christian moved up a class.

In Class 4A, Oklahoma State signee Ben Lathrop of Heritage Hall is the defending champion while power Oklahoma Christian School is the defending team champion led by Ainslee Stanford and 2025 runnerup Ty Netherlin. Latrop will also be chased by Oklahoma commit Banks Cozby and Coleman Sides of Cascia Hall and Jace Chaney of Plainview among others in this talented class.

Jacob Newsom of Broken Arrow will be looking to repeat in Class 6A as will his team at Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville.

Harrison Shaw, the only black champion in state history, will be looking to do it again in Class 5A at Shangri-La Resort. If he could propel his Booker T. Washington team to the title, it would be the first for the school. Claremore is the defending team champion.

Class 3A will be contested at The Coves on the shores of Grand Lake while Class 2A is at KickingBird Golf Course in Edmond. Scores are available on the Iwanakaker app and website and later on the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association website at www.ossaa.com.
